The Family Support Services (FSS) Program is a service that provides support to people on the Developmental Disabilities Waiver of North Dakota. This program is designed to provide support for family members who need to take time away from their responsibilities as a primary caregiver. This program benefits the people served by assisting the person served in activities of daily living and providing community support. The FSS program can be provided to the person served while the primary caregiver is home, or away from home but it is unavailable to care for the person.
The support team, case manager and primary caregiver determine the appropriate tasks or activities provided during the support hours and those activities are included in the person’s plan. Each person’s hours of support are individually authorized. The FSS program is intended to maintain family unity, enhance caregiver skills and with the focus of preventing out of home placement.
